The centre of Mestre
Take a walk in the centre of Mestre constituted by the long Ferretto Square. In 1913 Domenico Toniolo built the homonymous Theatre, the arcade and the surrounding buildings.
The church of Saint Laurence
The church of Saint Laurence is situated at the beginning of Ferretto Square. The first information about this church dates back to 1192. It has neoclassic façade and has kept its Romanesque Bell Tower. Inside visitors can admire nineteenth-century statues and the altars coming from the deconsacrated church of Saint Mary of the Graces.
Galleria dell'Accademia
The close proximity to Venice gives excellent opportunities to the visitors of Venice Mestre to explore the beauties of this world-famous Italian city. Be sure to visit the Galleria dell'Accademia in Venice, founded in the early 19th century. The museum's collection covers the Medieval, Byzantine, Renaissance and Baroque periods. It contains the most important collection of paintings of the Venetian school, with masterpieces by Bellini, Titian, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo, and Rosalba Carriera. Highlights include Giovanni Bellini's Madonna Enthroned and Veronese's Feast in the House of Levi.
Church of Vivaldi
Nowadays the Center for Coordination of Cultural Events has claimed the Church of Vivaldi as the home of the great compositor. The Church of Vivaldi's has temporarily relocated to the Papafava Palace where an array of musical events is hosted and constitutes an interesting repertoire of art from the 14th to the 18th century.
Teatro La Fenice
Known worldwide for its dramatic beauty, La Fenice is also known for the many great operas it holds. It was the place of the triumphs of TANCREDI, ERNANI, and RIGOLETTO that helped launch the careers of Rossini and Verdi and now majestic performances of the same grandeur are at your disposal when visiting Venice.
Birdwatching in the Po Delta
The longest river in Italy, the Po, flows into the sea on the northeast coast, where the landscape is completely flat. The horizontal lines between sea and sky are endless and this view almost takes you into another space. On leaving the ancient road connecting Venice and Ravenna, you enter a network of channels and salted lagoons. You can walk or ride a bike along the embankments, watching for rare stilt birds and the gatherings of migratory waterfowl. The Delta del Po is best during the spring and autumn seasons.
